西村　英士（にしむら　えいじ）

　1972年京都生まれ。5歳よりピアノを始める。
　高校時代にメシアンの音楽に出会い、感化される。
　大学在学中はピアノサークルや室内楽サークルに属し、概ねピアノと麻雀漬けの日々を送る。
　1994年、「みどり児イエスに注ぐ二十のまなざし」を全曲演奏。
　卒業後は東京、島根、京都、ロンドンの病院勤務を経て、現在は関東圏の某病院に勤める。
　専門は消化器外科、一般外科。（お仕事中の写真）

　ピアノを田中智子、高須久子、安田正昭の各氏に師事。国際アマチュアピアノコンクール2008でメシアン「鳥のカタログ」より「ヨーロッパウグイス」を演奏し、B部門第２位に入賞。
　楽譜の校訂・解説も手掛け、現在までにゴドフスキー「ジャワ組曲」、シュルホフ「５つのジャズ・エチュード／ジャズ舞踊組曲／５つのピトレスク」を株式会社プリズムより出版した。

好きな作曲家

　近現代を中心に聴いて／弾いていますが、ロマン派・古典派もある程度は。アルカン、ゴドフスキー、ソラブジ、ブゾーニらコンポーザー＝ピアニストは愛聴してます。
　過去の演奏曲目を見ればだいたいの嗜好がおわかり頂けるかと思います。

好きな演奏家

　アムラン、カペル、ホロヴィッツ、ニレジハージ、チェリビダッケ、ギトリスなど。

音楽以外の趣味

　旅行：学生時代は色々行きましたけど、最近は流石に暇が取れないのが悩みです。日本は全都道府県一通り訪ね歩きました。海外で足を踏み入れた珍しい国・地域と言えば、モルドヴァ、北キプロス、西サハラなど。飛行機が嫌い（何と言ってもカペルやヌヴーの命を奪った乗り物ですから）なので、サハラ砂漠へも日本から船と列車とバスとジープを乗り継いで行きました。
　麻雀：学生時代はとってもよく打ってましたけど、これも最近は時間が取れず…。しかし死ぬまでに一度、四槓子や九蓮宝燈をアガッてみたいもの。
　お酒：結局こんなとこに落ち着いてしまいますか。

General Profile of Eiji Nishimura

A Japanese who loves Messiaen's music very much.
Born in 1972, I started piano lessons at the age of 5.
In 1990 I entered Tokyo University, where I studied medicine; but also was enthusiastic about playing piano.
In 1994 I played complete "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus".
Now I'm working as a surgeon (specializing in abdominal surgery and liver transplantation), while playing the piano as an amateur.

Favorite Composers
Not only Messiaen, I like various 19th & 20th century composers, especially composer-pianists such as Alkan, Godowsky, Sorabji, Busoni, etc.

Favorite Players
Marc-André Hamelin, William Kapell, Vladimir Horowitz, John Ogdon, Ervin Nyiregyházi, Sergiu Celibidache, Ivry Gitlis, etc.

Performance History

1994:	Complete "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus".
1995 & 1996:	Attended a joint concert of complete "Catalogue d'oiseaux". (My participation was No. 3 "Le Merle bleu" and the longest, No. 7 "La Rousserolle effarvatte.")
1997:	Attended a joint concert entitled "Invitation to Transcriptions", where we played only transcriptions & paraphrases such as the works by Liszt, Thalberg, Busoni, Friedman, Godowsky, Sorabji, etc. (My participation was Johan Strauss II/Godowsky: "Künstlerleben", Rimsky-Korsakov/Sorabji: "The Song of the Hindu Merchant" and part of Liszt/Busoni: Fantasie und Fuge über den Choral "Ad nos, ad salutarem undam.")
2002:	Third movement of Alkan's "Concerto for piano solo" Op. 39-10 (from 12 Etudes on minor keys.)
2003:	Messiaen's posthumous Prélude (Japanese Premiere, 3/Aug.)
