House of Light

House of Light is a work of art created by James Turrell, known as an artist of lights.

This experimental work, where you can experience the artist's art world, is architecture without a parallel to anywhere in the world.

House of Light was conceived as a guesthouse for meditation, which Turrell took the concept from Junichiro Tanizaki's essay In Praise of Shadows.

The idea came across the artist's mind to incorporate his media, lights, with the traditional usage of light in Japanese houses.

We hope you will enjoy your time surrounded by various kinds of lights amid the abundant nature of Echigo-Tsumari.

The cancellation fee occurs from cancellation of stay before ten days.

Visiting hour : 11:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.　

* There will be a lot of snow on a streets and icy roads, please have snow tires or chains.
It will be safer if your car is four-wheeled vehicle.
