Chapter1 Japansese immigrants in the US:
Over the contract

However, they came to Hawaii intending to go back home after the contract was over, many of them didnft save as much money as they had expected initially, and also many people decided to stay in Hawaii more. As they prolonged their stay for five years, for ten years, they began to get used to the life in Hawaii gradually. And they became to feel their life in Hawaii as comfortable with the surrounding warm climate and beautiful nature of Hawaii. Also they were never tied by their traditional and stiff customs. They came to think of themselves as settlers, not just mere migrants now.

........They called for their brides from Japan. Some continued work in the plantation and others started their own businesses. Those who started their own business left the plantation and moved to cities such as Honolulu. Furthermore some moved to the mainland of America.

In the plantations, children were born to couples and the number of children believing Hawaii to be their hometown began to increase in the camps. The camps became lively by such children. Moreover, the people who moved to outside plantations began to have families there and stores run by Japanese were also increasing. In this process, their community came to be gradually established in Hawaii and spread throughout Hawaii.
